Dear Students,
The EUREKA undergraduate research programs are designed to provide you with essential research skills for your future endeavors, whether you plan to pursue graduate studies, a career in academia, or a research-oriented field. The Eureka program for the academic year 2024-25 offers Year 2 and 3 students the opportunity to engage in inquiry-based research projects, enabling them to gain hands-on experience and develop strong research skills early in their academic journey.
Eureka extends over a full academic year and comprises two main components:
- Semester 1: You will participate in the online module “Introduction to Research Methods” at your own pace. This module is worth 1 credit under the Out-of-Classroom Learning Award Scheme. Further details can be found at https://fri.hku.hk/.
- Semester 2: With guidance from an academic mentor, you will conduct a Eureka research project as a free elective, earning 6 academic credits. Students have the flexibility to choose a project of interest from an approved list within or outside their home faculty.

Eligibility: Open to non-final year students who have completed at least two semesters at HKU with a cumulative GPA of 2.70 or above.
Schedule:
- October to December 2024: Students register for their preferred projects on the online platform, explore opportunities, and meet with potential mentors.
- November to December: Students engage in the Introduction of Research Method Module.
- January to April 2025: Students work on their projects.
- April to May 2024: Students submit a one-page research poster and a reflective research essay to their mentors.
