What is Undergraduate Research Programme-Eureka?
The Undergraduate Research Programme-Eureka offers extended learning opportunities for undergraduate students to undertake inquiry-based research projects during the early years of their normative study period.
Spanning ONE academic year, the Eureka programme consists of: (a) Introduction to Research Methods online module; and (b) Eureka research project.
The Introduction to Research Methods online module has to be completed by May 31, 2025 (23:59) in self-paced mode by students, which carries 1 credit under the Out-of-Classroom Learning Award Scheme. For year 2 to 4 students, you can self-register the course by clicking on “take this course” button at https://learning.hku.hk/catalog/course/friresearch/. After you login to the HKU portal, there will be “Enrol Now” button.
If you wish to apply for a waiver for the Introduction to Research Methods course, please send your proof of equivalent training to eurekaproject@hku.hk. You will be notified of the result afterwards. In case that a waiver is not recommended, you must complete the Introduction to Research Methods online module and provide the certificate to us by June 6, 2025.
The Eureka research project will be taken in S2/ summer semester under the supervision of an academic mentor. This course will be taken as a free elective and will carry 6 academic credits.
The URP-Eureka research project is NOT a substitute for the capstone experience students normally undertake during their final year of study.
Application for Eureka Programme (2024-25)
The Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Hong Kong (FOSS) is pleased to invite applications for the 2025 L.C.K. Students will work directly on faculty-led projects to explore topics in the following areas: politics, language, global finance, migration, health and well-being, and technology. Administrative and research support will be provided in the form of mentoring, as well as methodological training at the UChicago’s campus in Hong Kong.
To apply, students will need to submit a cover letter along with the names of three references and their contact information. The cover letter needs to specify which project they would like to serve on, their research interests, as well as any methodological skills and language skills they bring to the project.
All applications need to be submitted by clicking on “Apply Now” button, with a cover letter uploaded as a Word or PDF document named LASTNAME_FIRSTNAME_PROJECTNUMBER (for example, applicant Chan Tai Man interested in Project One should submit a document titled Chan_TaiMan_ProjectOne.docx)
